 "Gatsby"

Born on February 14th, 2020, Gatsby is an Irish bred racing line Greyhound out of profound stud "Droopys Jet" and brood bitch "Slippy Articfire" and was given the name "Slippy Luckyone", though he would never formally race. He was adopted by a young American couple at only a few months of age and flown to the US. He would soon be surrendered to Paws On The Mountain, a Greyhound adoption organization in Gerrardstown, West Virginia. He would quickly be adopted by a home, filled with many other Greyhounds, who would call him "Lucky". Gatsby was the youngest of several hounds and had loads of extra energy to burn, his owner enrolled him in day training at a local dog training facility shortly after adopting him. In October 2021, Gatsby's owner would reach out to the facility, of which I was now a professional trainer at, and request an in home visit to discuss some behavioral issues. I was asked by the head trainer to accompany her on this session due to my breed knowledge. It was ultimately decided that Gatsby would likely do better in a home with more structure and activity. Gatsby became a foster of mine shortly after. Only a year old, Gatsby, had now passed through quite a few homes. He struggled with settling and would often pace the halls. He initially struggled with marking and chewing on the walls. He sought isolation and would leave the room if you happened to sit on the same couch as him. Due to Gatsby's quirks and the fact I enjoyed his presence quite a bit, I adopted him. He made his UKC conformation debut in September 2022 with Sarah Frieslander at the end of his lead, winning his first Reserve Best In Show. Gatsby was found to be a natural in the ring. From free stacking to throwing a captivating expression, he quickly made a name for himself. In November 2022, he would take home his first Best In Show, accompanied by two more Reserve Best In Shows, thus finishing his UKC Championship. Gatsby quickly made progress, earning his Emerald GRCH shortly after and soon becoming the first Greyhound to earn a Ruby GRCH and Sapphire GRCH. In October 2023, Gatsby would show at the UKC Eastern Classic and sweep with three Best In Shows and one Reserve Best In Show for a total of four wins, in the best In Show ring, out of the six shows offered that weekend. In April 2024, 1.5 years after his debut, Gatsby would take three back to back Best In Show wins, making breed history by becoming the first Diamond Grand Champion Greyhound. The Diamond GRCH title is the highest title offered in UKC conformation. Throughout this time, he gathered many other titles across both UKC and AKC including his JC, ATT, FDC, TKN, BCAT, DCAT, and his CGCs. Gatsby has also been QC'd in Lure Coursing. Gatsby took Altered Best Of Breed at both the 2024 and 2025 Greyhound national Specialty shows. As of December 2025, Gatsby has won 24 Best In Shows and 16 Reserve Best In Shows, for a combined count of 40 BIS/RBIS Wins. Gatbsy is semi- retired, but continues to step into the show ring from time to time. Gatsby now spends most of his time with his junior handler, Lily, who loves him and continues to show him in AKC and UKC conformation.
