Protecting the Carolina Dog breed.
Expanding the network & available resources for Carolina Dogs in need
While Carolina Dogs are a rare breed, they still end up in rescues, shelters, and situations where rehoming is necessary. Due to the breed continuing to maintain a wild population, Carolina Dogs pop up in shelters in the southern United States and along the east coast. There is currently no breed specific rescue dedicated to assisting with these dogs, nor is there currently an organization dedicated strictly to the Carolina Dog breed that has the means and resources to pull dogs from these unfortunate situations. Carolina dogs are quite sensitive, often times when they find themselves in shelters- they shut down. This combined with the lack of individuals with first hand breed experience makes it difficult to accurately asses these dogs as well as safely manage and place them.
CRK is still expanding our kennel and property. We recognize the growing urgency for assistance with this breed in the rescue setting. Our goal is to offer networking and resources to individuals who are currently looking to rehome their Carolina Dogs or individuals who come across Carolina Dogs in need in a shelter or rescue environment. We are NOT a 501(c)(3) currently, though we do hope to establish one in the future so that we may better assist those in need.
We wish we could help all dogs in need, but we are focusing on Carolina Dogs for the reasons stated above. For this reason, it is important to remember that not every dog that resembles a Carolina Dog, is a Carolina Dog. Dogs that are mixed with Siberian Husky, German Shepherd Dog, American Pit Bull Terrier, and Australian Cattle Dogs may resemble the build, coloring, and coat of a Carolina Dog. There is the chance that you may reach out to us and find out that a dog in question, is not a Carolina Dog. We are still happy to direct you to other breed specific and mixed breed rescues and resources, but our priority is Carolina Dogs in need.
